Decemeber 2 - December 6

Math - In math students will continue to strengthen their skills with division.  Homework will be; P. 33-34 (Due Tues.) Worksheet R14 (Due Wed.), and P 35-36 (Due Thurs.), Extra credit will be available also this week, E14 (Due Fri.)

Science - In Science this week we will be looking at how technology can be used to help meet needs and the possible benefits/costs that can come from new technology.  Students will have an at-home-observational assignment (Due Wed.), homework from p. 90-92 (Due Thurs.), and the review on p. 97-100 (Due Mon.).  We will be having a test on this Unit next Tuesday (Dec. 10).

Social Studies - Having just taken our test on Unit 2 last week we will be starting Unit 3, Ch. 1 this week.  Students will have to take daily notes and will also be expected to complete WB 41-48 (Due. Fri).

Religion - Rosary Monday, Reconciliation Tuesday, Mass Friday.  No test this week. 

Literature - Students were to have read Ch. 7 in Little House in the Big Woods over the weekend, this week we will get through Ch. 8, 9, 10, and 11 with worksheets for Ch. 7-8 (Due. Tues.), Ch. 9 (Due Wed.) amd Ch. 10-11 (Due Fri).

Spelling/Vocabulary - There will be a test on Unit 7 Spelling/Vocabulary words a week from this Friday (December 13).  This week, students will have homework twice, writting the words three times each (Due. Tuesday) and writing the words in alphabetical order (Due Wednesday).

November 11 - 15, 2013

Book Fair is this week!  Make sure to get on down there and get some book for your kids to read!  (Please try to avoid the gadgets and toys, these tend to be a distraction in the classroom).  Our field trip to the Veterans Day parade is Monday.  We will be leaving at 10:15 and returning around 12:15.  Students are to wear uniforms, bring a disposable lunch, and a blanket to sit on.

Math - We have been working outside of the book for over a week now in order to review certain math abilities, but now that we have a somewhat stronger grasp with our multiplication and division we will be moving back into the book.  We should be able to get through Lesson 1.10 and 1.11 this week and then 1.12 and 1.13 next week meaning we will probably have our test on Unit 1 next Thursday (Nov. 21).  Student can expect homework around 3 times this week.

Science - We recently have started our unit on the Design Process and engineering.  Monday we will explore how these are used in the idea of flight and airplanes, and for the rest of the week we will be focusing on Inovation and our the Design Process.  Students can expect homework twice this week.

Spelling/Vocabulary - The start of a new unit, Unit 6, is upon us. Homework will be expected two nights this week and studying should be done every night.  The spelling test will be on Friday Nov. 22, the spelling words are as follows:

October 28 - November 1

Excellent job with Mass last Friday!  We received a lot of compliments and I was very proud of everyone's behavior.  Also, our class Auction Project has been decided and we will begin the preliminary steps for this project this week.

Math - We have been learning the order of operations the last couple weeks and will continue to further our understanding and familiarity with these.  Homework can be expected Monday and Wednesday night with a Quiz on Friday.


Science - This will be our last week of nightly observations (yah!).  We will continue with our theme of ecosystems, homework can be expected every night (nightly observations, 2-4 minutes a night).  There will be a test on ecosystems (Unit 5 in Science book) Friday of this Week (Nov. 1st).

Social Studies - We have just begun our exploration of the early European settlers in the Americas and will continue to make our way through the chapter.  Students can expect homework twice this week.

Literature - Having finished the first 4 chapters of the Great Brain last week, we will be continuing with this novel, and will come close to finishing it this week.  Students can expect a test on Monday or Tuesday of next week and homework most nights this week.



Religion - We did an excellent job with Mass last week and got many compliments.  This week we are back in the book and discussing another one of the Sacraments.  There will be a review on Thursday (due Friday) and Test on Friday.


Spelling/Vocabulary - Spelling and Vocabulary test will be this Friday. Students will have homework from their work book Monday-Wednesday night.

Oct. 14 - Oct. 18

Jog-a-thon is this week!  Remember that if students have not already ordered their lunch they need to bring a sack lunch.  Also, it is important to remember that sunscreen and bugspray that you want your child to wear needs to be put on them before they go to school.  Don't forget to stay hydrated and thank you so much for all you do to voulnteer here!  We absolutely wouldn't be able to do it without you!

Math - There has been such amazing progress in our speed and ability multiplying numbers!  We will continue to work at multiplying multi-digit numbers times multi-digit numbers this week.  Students can expect homework Monday and Tuesday night.

Science - We are going to explore forests and other specific ecosystems in the next week or two.  Students can expect homework Monday night and nightly observations 2-4 minutes every night.

Religion - Having just finished with the sacrament of confirmation we are going to analyze moral decisions by looking at various real-life scenarios and what would students do in these situations.  There should be no homework this week.

Literature - This week we will start our next novel, The Great Brain, students will be assigned a book and will be expected to bring it to class everyday.  Students can expect homework Monday and Tuesday night.

Spelling/Vocabulary - We will be reviewing analogies, homographs, and using context clues this week.  No new spelling or vocabulary words this week.

Social Studies - Students will have time to finish up their research on the Native American tribes in class using the laptops and books.

Oct. 7 - Oct. 11

Get those Jog-a-thon pledges going, our run is coming up very soon!

Spelling/Vocabulary - This is week two of Unit 4, Spelling/Vocabulary Test will be Friday.  Students will be expected to complete p. 40-43 in the blue Vocabulary book.

Social Studies - Students will have a Social Studies test on Thursday on Chapters 1 and 2 (Unit 1).  Students will have a review for homework and will review in class but they should look at, organize, and add to their notes at home.

Science -  We will continue to talk about ecosystems and how each animal and plant is adapted to its own ecosystem.  Students will have observations to make every night and will have additional homework 1-2 times this week.

Religion - This week we are starting a new section (Chapter 8, Unit 2) on the Holy Spirit.  Students can expect a review on Thursday and a test on Friday.

Math - After spending the last two weeks reviewing single-digit multiplication and having a quiz last Friday, we are now ready to move on to double digit multiplication.  Students can expect a small amount of homework Tuesday and Wednesday.

Literature - With only a couple chapters of Poppy left in the book we are aiming for our Poppy test for this Wednesday.  Students can expext homework Monday and Tuesday night to help them review.

September 30 - October 4

Jog-a-thon Packets are going home this week!  Let's go out and raise some money for a great cause.
Our field trip to the World's Largest Classroom will be this Tuesday.


Math - We have gone out of the book in our math class in order to focus on basic multiplication facts, something we will need to work on for another week or so before we are comfortable enough to continue where we left off.  Students can expect multiplication homework 2-3 nights this week.

Science - Having just finished our introductory unit we are now moving into the exploration of different ecosystems and how they are a habitat for the specific animals that live there.  Students will have nightly observations to make at home and will have additional homework 1-2 times this week.

Spelling/Vocabulary - The Unit 4 Spelling words are availble below.  Students can expect to have three homework assignments this week; 1. writing the 20 spelling words 3 times each  2. organizing the 20 spelling words in alphabetical order and 3.  writing the syllbication of each of the 20 spelling words.

Reading - Students will continue to read Poppy up to Ch. 12

Religion - We will be reviewing the Liturgical Year.  There should be no homework except to study for the upcoming Friday test.

September 23 - 27

Reminder that the upcoming field trip to the Tulsa State Fair is going to be on Oct. 1, 2013 (next tuesday).  We are still in need of a couple drivers and those of you who have been wonderful enough to drive, please make sure that you get your paperwork turned in ahead of time.

Vocabulary/Spelling - The test will be this week on Friday.  Students will have a small amount of homework every night in this subject from their blue Vocabulary book. (See last week's post for Spelling/Vocabulary words)

Literature - We are really sinking our teeth into Poppy, students can expect about 10-20 minutes of homework Tuesday - Thursday for this book.

Science - We will be reviewing in class for a test on Thursday.  Students will not have much homework beyond making observations for a couple minutes while at home.

Social Studies - This week we are presenting our brochures and talking about National Parks, next week we will pick up where we left off with the early settlers in North America.

Religion - We are finishing up the subject of baptism, students will be assigned a review on Wednesday which will not be due until Friday morning and then the typical Religion test will occur on Friday right after Lunch.

Math - In my Math class we will really start to hit hard mental math of one digit factors.  Homework will be minimal this week with only one assignment upcoming.

Rise and Shine - This Monday our students will be leading the Rise and Shine for the entire school. 

Math - In my math class we will be continuing to explore exponents and how they are related to place value.

Literature - We will continue reading Poppy finishing chapters 2-5 this week (homework can be expected every night).

Spelling/Vocabulary - This week marks the start of Unit 4 for Spelling/Vocabulary.  Unit 4 words are:

Social Studies - In learning about the early development of the U.S. and especially OK, we will expand our knowledge of regions and climates and talk about regional differences that  may contribute to settlement in a specific area.

September 3 - September 6

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing Labor Day and that they are now fully restored and ready for another exciting week of school!

Math - In my Math class we are going to continue to look at place-value while introducing exponents.  Students can expect homework most nights.

Science - Our journey into exploring what it means to be a scientist will continue as continue to make observations and create conlcusions with the weather.  Students are expected to make nightly observations but will only have homework probably one of these nights.

Literature - Only a couple chapters left in Justin and the Best Biscuits in the World so students can expect homework every night including a short book review which will be given out as soon as we finish the book.

Religion - Review will be this Thursday with the Chapter test on Friday (as usual). 


Planners - Parents, please make sure you are checking your child's planner every night and signing off on it (initialling) so we (the teachers) know that this is being viewed.

Spelling/Vocabulary - Students should be bringing home their spelling/vocabulary list in their planners. The test will be next Friday (9/13).
