January 21-24

Our field trip last week to St. Pius X for Vocations Day was a fun and hopefully eye-opening time for our students.  The 5th graders had a great time meeting in small groups with priests/sisters to talk about vocations and also enjoyed dressing up in religious 'uniform' and meeting Pope Francis!  Our students were very well behaved and we received compliments on our behavior from other schools.

This week we are preparing ourselves for the upcoming Catholic Schools Week.  In religion class we will be talking about our vocations and will work on completing our poster to send back to the Vocations Day Committee.

In math we are going to further develop our understanding of decimal places, focusing this week on organizing decimals and adding decimals.  There will be a quiz this Friday on adding decimals.

Science class will keep looking at the human body and the importance of cells in it.  This week we are focusing on skin, bones, and muscles and how they work together to enable us to move as we do.

We will continue to look at the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies this week in Social Studies.  Students will be expected to take detailed notes and will have a test next week, probably next Thursday on Ch. 6 and 7.  They may use their notes.

In Literature we over halfway done with our book, The City of Ember.  Students will read through Ch. 14 for this week and will have a couple of assignments to go with.

The Unit 10 Spelling/Vocabulary test will be the Friday after this, (January 31st).  Students will have an assignment most days and will also get a chance to earn extra credit points for the test.
